Desdemona

Desdemona — A Play About a Handkerchief

Shakespeare never really answers the propelling question and doubt of infidelity in Othello. Not unlike jealousy itself, the belief in Desdemona's innocence is rooted in prejudice cemented by the collective stigma of predatory male sexually.

Paula Vogel utilizes this overlooked characteristic of the play and our society to raise an unbiased and inquiring discourse about the empowerment of women without whitewashing or demonizing genders themselves.
